Apple's required sizes
App Store Connect requires screenshots for the largest iPhone display, and separately for iPad if you support it. Smaller sizes are optional and get scaled from the largest, which is usually acceptable — but if a caption sits close to the edge, check the downscaled result rather than assuming.
Play's extra assets
Google Play additionally requires a 1024×500 feature graphic and a 512×512 icon, both separate from your screenshots. The feature graphic appears above your listing on many surfaces and is frequently the first thing a browsing user sees, yet it is routinely treated as an afterthought.
Why submissions fail on assets
Both consoles validate uploads against exact pixel dimensions before a human ever reviews the app. A screenshot that is a few pixels out, a feature graphic with transparency, or an icon with an alpha channel where none is allowed will each stop the submission. None of these are judgement calls, which is what makes a checklist worth more than experience here.
How to use the app store screenshot sizes
- Filter to the store you are submitting to.
- Produce the required sizes first — the optional ones scale from the largest set.
- Check the notes column for format rules, especially transparency, which differs per asset.
- Do not forget Play's feature graphic and icon, which are separate from screenshots entirely.
- Export the checklist and tick each asset off before you open the submission form.
